Third man who disrupted flight deported

The remaining member of the trio whose alleged drunken actions caused a flight to be diverted to the Island was to be repatriated to England last night.

Three men, aged 25, 26 and 35, were arrested at L.F. Wade International Airport on New Year's Eve after a First Choice Airways flight made a forced landing while on its way from Manchester, England to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

The airline alleged the trio was drunk, violent and abusive.

The Boeing 767-300, operated by Thomson Airways and carrying about 250 passengers, was forced to land in Bermuda just after 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31.

The three men were met by Police and taken into custody.

The plane refuelled and left Bermuda for Punta Cana at about 7.30 p.m. that same evening, arriving at its destination about four hours late.

The 35-year-old, from Burnley, Lancashire, returned to the UK on New Year's Day.

He was reported to have been arrested on arrival at London Gatwick on suspicion of endangering an aircraft.

The 26-year-old was sent back to London Sunday evening.

The event marks the second time a First Choice Boeing 767-300 has recently been diverted to Bermuda.

The last incident took place in July, after 29-year-old Dean Lyons allegedly became abusive on a flight from London to Cuba after drinking duty-free liquor.

He was later flown back to the UK and charged with being drunk on a plane.
