Three cops injured in traffic chases
Two Police officers were victims of a hit and run at the weekend when a motorcyclist pulled away from being questioned.
And a female officer was injured after a taxi driver struck her as he fled the scene of an accident at 2.35 a.m. on Saturday in Water Street, St. George's.
At 9.45 p.m. on Saturday officers noticed a motorcyclist running a stop sign at the junction of Khyber Pass and Middle Road, Warwick.
When they stopped his vehicle near the Four Ways Inn in Paget however, the man sped off, striking both officers.
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: "As he fled the scene, the motorcyclist struck two male Police officers standing in the road as they signalled for him to stop, knocking one to the ground."
Police caught up with the 21-year-old man from Warwick, and used a deterrent spray to arrest him.
The extent of the two officers' injuries was last night "unknown"
In the St. George's incident, officers attempted to speak to the taxi driver but he then sped off, striking the female officer in the road.
The driver however then lost control of his vehicle, flipping it at Stone Crusher Corner on Kindley Field Road.
"The driver and sole occupant, a 27-year-old Hamilton parish man, received a shoulder injury as well as cuts to his body," the Police spokesman said. "He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries.
"The taxi driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. The female Police officer was also taken to KEMH for treatment of bruising as well as soreness to her left hip and leg. She was later released.
