Three hurt, baby unharmed in taxi crash

A taxi driver and two passengers were injured when a his vehicle came into collision with a car on Wednesday, but a baby in the cab escaped unharmed.

Police were called to the scene at the junction of Middle and South Roads in Southampton around 9.15 p.m.

A spokesman explained: "It appears that the car was travelling west on Middle Road and the taxi was travelling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The driver of the car, a 30-year-old Southampton man, was not injured. The driver of the taxi, a 68-year-old Warwick man, sustained bruising to his chest. There were three passengers in the taxi at the time and it appears that two of them were injured. However, all three passengers were taken to KEMH via ambulance for assessment.

"A 32-year-old Paget woman sustained an injury to her right arm and shoulder while a 16-year-old young woman from Sandys Parish apparently sustained an injury to her neck.

"A four-month-old baby who was also in the taxi at the time was not injured. Both vehicles received extensive front end damage. Traffic was diverted from the scene for approximately an hour."
