Woman is hurt in an attempted sexual assault in Pitts Bay Road
A woman was dragged into a driveway in Pembroke by a man who tried to sexually assault her, Police revealed last night.
The 28-year-old, from Paget, was walking along Pitts Bay Road near Smatt's Cycles at about 4 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, when a man she did not know approached her in a car and drove off.
A Police spokesman said that shortly afterwards the man came up from behind and grabbed her, dragging her to a nearby driveway, where he attempted to sexually assault her.
"A struggle ensued and the victim sustained facial injuries as well as abrasions to her body," said the spokesman. "She attended the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment."
An investigation is ongoing into the attack and Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at that time or with information to contact them.
The suspect is described as dark-skinned and about 6ft tall with a flat nose and short hair. He was wearing a black jacket, shirt and jeans and was driving an older model burgundy sports coupe.
A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident shortly after it happened and later released on Police bail.
Meanwhile, Police said last night that the victim of an armed robbery in City Hall car park on Wednesday evening was a 23-year-old man from Hamilton Parish, not a 13-year-old boy as they had said earlier in the week.
The man, who was not injured, believed his male assailant was brandishing a firearm but Police were unable to confirm that yesterday, describing it only as a weapon.
The mugging happened at about 8.30 p.m. and the victim's wallet and BlackBerry cell phone were stolen, before the offender made off on foot towards Cedar Avenue.
The suspect is described as black, about 6ft tall and wearing a dark hooded top and dark track pants.
Both incidents are described in a warning e-mail currently being circulated around the Island. The e-mailer writes that their friend was robbed at gunpoint in the City Hall car park "barely after dark".
They add: "I am sure you all have also heard about the girl who had her face punched in and clothes ripped off by the Hamilton Princess the week before last while trying to get a cab."
