Women's club gives to children's sensory room

The International Women's Club helped to improve the quality of life for those with sensory deprivation by donating $3,500 to the WindReach Recreational Facility.

The money will go towards purchasing Sensory Room equipment at the recreational campus in Warwick. The room is the only facility of its kind in Bermuda, providing sensor stimulating activities, play and relaxation. It is used by children with autism, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and cerebral palsy, plus Alzheimer's patients.

The Board of IWC chose WindReach and Raleigh International as this year's recipients of its annual philanthropic grant, with the club members casting the final vote.

A $3,000 donation to Raleigh International sponsored a student on environmental and community outreach projects in Nicaragua and Costa Rica this summer. Raleigh International overseas expeditions challenge young people to develop life skills and harness their full potential.

Interested in joining IWC? The women's club is open to all nationalities and offers a range of hobbies and activities such as tennis, golf, boating, painting, book groups, walking and cookery. Founded in 1981, it has a strong philanthropic base and has donated more than $140,000 over the years to Island charities.

The club currently has more than 250 members from 18 countries, with regular social functions to meet and establish new friendships.
