'Bad day' biker was twice over drink-drive limit
A Hamilton Parish man caught with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system told Police he was just "having a bad day".
Martin Godley, 31, of Lemon Grove Road, in Hamilton Parish, was spotted by Police at 1.10 a.m on December 13 while driving in Devonshire.
Magistrates' Court heard that Godley was riding a motorcycle on Cavendish Road when Police spotted him swerve to the central yellow line.
The officers who were following behind him in a marked Police car, pulled him over on Montpellier Road and noticed he had a strong scent of alcohol on his breath and that his eyes were glazed.
They asked him if he had anything to drink that night and he replied 'Yes. Too many'. He was cautioned about the offence and told Police: "I'm having a bad day."
Godley was taken to Southside Police Station where two samples of breath were taken for analysis. The lower reading showed he had 173 milligrammes of alcohol in his system per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
Godley was given an $800 fine, disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months and given 10 demerit points.
