Bank workers plant trees at Vesey Nature Reserve

Bank employees invested in the future of the natural environment by planting trees for preservation charity Buy Back Bermuda.

Up to 34 staff from the Butterfield Bank took part in the project, at Vesey Nature Reserve, Southampton.

They also helped to clear invasive plants at the Skroggins Hill site, replacing them with native and endemic flora and fauna.

Walking trails and resting spots were also pruned and tidied to make way for future planting.

Butterfield Bank President and CEO Alan Thompson said: "Giving back to the community is an important part of our business and I am very pleased that so many of our employees volunteered their time to assist Buy Back Bermuda.

"It was especially heartening to see so many young people coming forward to assist in the preservation of such a beautiful part of the Island."

Vesey Nature Reserve is a 7.5 acre parcel of land at the edge of Evans Pond, Southampton. It extends over the ridgeline of Skroggins Hill to the shoreline of the Little Sound, and borders Evans Bay Nature Reserve.

In addition to volunteer time, Bank of Butterfield also donated $600 worth of gardening equipment to the Bermuda National Trust, for future volunteer events. This included loppers, secateurs and gloves.
