Bermudian saw Inaugural parade from museum

Dr. Terrylynn Tyrell on top of the roof of the Newseum takes pics of the Presidential motorcade along Pennsylvania Avenue

Campaign worker Dr. Terrylynn Tyrell was on top of the world to see Barack Obama sworn-in as President of the United States in more ways than one.

Dr. Tyrell was so excited to see the Presidential motorcade go past in Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D.C., she climbed onto the roof of a museum to take photographs.

"I was standing on the roof and somebody was holding onto my ankles. It was kind of scary, but I was determined to see it," she said.

"I just felt it was such a transformative moment for the world, I didn't want to miss it. When the President went past we just screamed and screamed."

Dr. Tyrell, a Bermudian who now lives in Baltimore, volunteered as an Obama 'campaign captain' last year, coordinating volunteers from the city's campaign office.

On Tuesday she travelled to Washington D.C. to watch the Inauguration of the new US President, from the city's Newseum.

"I left the house at five in the morning and didn't get into the Newseum until 11.45. It was gridlock in the city, but I had such a great day, an awesome day," said Dr. Tyrell.

"We watched the ceremony on a massive movie-sized screen. It was so exhilarating. There were children, babies, older people, all age groups there," she said.

"There were also people of every nationality, so it was a lot of fun."

Dr. Tyrell, education director for the charity Advocates for Children & Youth, said: "Obama's words were very inspirational. He said we should make children our number one priority, and that's what I truly believe."
