Cannabis-filled cigarettes earn Sandys man conditional discharge
A 25-year-old father, who plead guilty to possession of marijuana cigarettes found in his female passenger's bag, was warned about love by a Senior Magistrate.
Che Scott, of Beacon Hill Sandys, was caught on Sunday, January 16 in front of Westgate prison by Police Officers during a routine traffic stop.
A sniffer dog alerted the Officers to a black purse on the front seat and when they searched the bag they discovered two, brown, rolled cigarettes.
Scott indicated they were his and that the female passenger had no idea he possessed the drugs. Yesterday in Magistrates' Court he plead guilty and asked for leniency because he wanted to return to school.
He said: "I would like to apologise for my behaviour. I am trying to go away to school in June but I don't want this to effect that in any way. "I have a daughter and another on the way. I saw the Police and panicked and put them (the drugs) in her (the female passenger's) bag."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner reprimanded the 25-year-old reminding him that a drug conviction could stop him from going away to school.
After continually questioning Scott about why he placed the drugs in the black purse and not in his pockets, Mr. Warner warned him of being in love.
Mr. Warner said: "I said people in love do stupid things, but nothing is wrong with love. I guess her ability to travel abroad and shop is more important."
He then gave Scott a conditional discharge for nine months.
