Cyclist fighting for his life after crash
A 16-year-old boy was fighting for his life last night after a road smash in Devonshire.
According to the Police, his motorcycle came into collision with a car on South Road around 11.30 p.m on Saturday, near Ariel Sands. The female car driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
A Police spokesman said: "Details about how the collision occurred are unclear. However, it appears that a car and an auxiliary cycle were travelling in opposite directions when the vehicles collided.
"The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 16-year-old young man from Sandys parish sustained serious head, internal and leg injuries. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment and is currently in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
"The driver of the car, a 36-year-old Smith's parish woman, sustained injuries to her right hand and right leg. She was also taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment and later released. The driver of the car was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. "
The car overturned in the collision and the road remained closed until Sunday morning while the scene was investigated. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Preston Gill on 295-0011.
