Two centuries of fine craftsmen and mechanics at Dockyard will be recognised at a ceremony today.

Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Premier Ewart Brown will congratulate apprentices at the event marking the 200th anniversary of the Royal Naval Dockyard. A press release from West End Development Corporation (Wedco) states: "HM Dockyard Bermuda has, for two centuries, provided Bermuda with the finest craftsmen and mechanics to be found anywhere in the world.

"While having as its primary goal service to the Royal Navy ships and shore stations, the skills and talents nurtured here have benefited Bermuda immensely.

"The inherent apprenticeship system provided Bermuda with its first truly racially integrated school and workshop experience, while producing 200 master tradesmen and scholars, as can be witnessed by the heights attained by many after the completion of their HM Dockyard experience."

Dr. Edward Harris, executive director of Bermuda Maritime Museum, will lead a tour highlighting the contributions of the apprentices over the years. Wedco chairman Walter Lister said: "After 200 years of existence, The Royal Naval Dockyard is looking to the future."
