Female impersonator to perform on cruise ship

Female impersonator Mark Anderson has been invited to perform on the luxury cruise liner The World.

The 644-foot vessel arrives in Hamilton on Friday and leaves early Monday afternoon from St. George's.

"As the 'Queen of Bermuda', who better to represent us?" said Mr. Anderson, the man behind the performance character Sybil Barrington.

"And who knows where it might lead? I might get hired to go aboard and perform on a nightly basis."

The World, operated by Florida-based corporation ResidenSea, is billed as a floating community owned by its residents.

The ship circles the world from port to port with passengers living in 165 units.

Notoriously private, The World's exact head count is not available, but between one and three hundred can be expected on board when the ship docks in Bermuda.

Mr. Anderson said he was officially invited to perform on the ship by one of The World's Bermuda-based owners.

He said: "I've been hired by one of the billionaires. It will be the second time I've performed for the passengers of The World. But it will be my first time on board the ship."

Mr. Anderson, who will perform by himself in front of about 150 passengers over 40 minutes, said he hadn't yet decided his routine.

"It depends on my mood when I wake up in the morning," he said.

The midday show, which will include stand-up comedy and lip-synched Patti LaBelle songs, has to be "hot and bigger than life", he added.

Promising not to sail away, Mr. Anderson promised he would be here to host the 8th Annual Diva Festival at City Hall on Saturday, October 23.
