Formal unveiling of Sally Bassett statue on Monday
Governor Sir Richard Gozney, Premier Ewart Brown and former Premier Dame Jennifer Smith will pay tribute to former slave Sally Bassett during an official unveiling ceremony of her monument on Monday.
The ten-foot tall statue, sculpted by Bermudian artist Carlos Dowling, was shown to the public last November, but another ceremony is to take place as more aspects of the monument have now been completed.
Dr. Brown said in a statement last night: "Sally Bassett's story is a powerful one and we look forward to marking this occasion in song and tribute.
"We are opening up the Cabinet Grounds and encouraging as many residents as possible to come and bring their family and friends and be a part of this signature event which acknowledges the historical value of a uniquely Bermudian story."
The event starts at 5.15 p.m. The public are encouraged to bring blankets, towels or folding chairs as seating on the Cabinet Grounds will be limited.
