Four Berkeley students represent Island at UNESCO youth summit

Four Berkeley Institute student represented the Island at a UNESCO youth summit in England to discuss world heritage in the 21st century. The conference had students from 11 world heritage sites including Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Bermuda.

Students were selected through a nationwide competition organised by the UK national commission for UNESCO in partnership with the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

Young people were entered by submitting art and technology that expressed how they felt about their world heritage site.

The St. George's Foundation selected Bermuda's winning entry, a collage submitted by a team of S1 Berkeley Institute students including Sudan Furbert, DeAzha Chambers, Elizabeth Blankendal and Jordon Richardson. Leondra Burchall, Director of Education for The St. George's Foundation said: "The work submitted by these students was an exceptional representation of our World Heritage Site and the students presentation on the historic town of St. George and Related Fortifications was the highlight of the youth summit."

At the summit, students presented their winning entry to other young people in attendance.

They also worked with creative directors Rennel Shaw and Yao Adu to discuss their views and visions for world heritage in the 21st century.

The views and visions will be put onto a podcast and will be apart of the UNESCO world heritage site international youth forum meeting prior to the UNESCO world heritage committee meeting on June 22 to 30 in Sevile, Spain.
