Half-year amnesty for payroll tax defaulters to pay up
A six-month payroll tax amnesty will begin in May meaning people can pay off debts without facing civil and criminal prosecution.
Tax Commissioner Michael Crichlow said in a statement: "I am urging all who have outstanding payroll taxes to make arrangements with our office to pay their outstanding debt. During the six-month period we will waive any penalties and additional taxes."
From May 1 to October 31, amnesty will be offered to taxpayers who have: failed to file returns; understated their taxes on previously filed returns; currently have a payment plan with the Office of the Tax Commissioner; or have any other outstanding debt with respect to payroll tax; as well as individuals who have failed to register.
Amnesty will not be offered to taxpayers whose account has been transferred to the Attorney General's Chambers — Debt Enforcement Unit; or are in the process of being audited and have been so notified; or are appealing a decision of the Tax Commissioner.
