Injured man ticketed after car crash

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital after he lost control of his car in Southampton in the early hours of yesterday.

Police attended the crash on South Road near the Southampton Rangers Club shortly after midnight. A spokesman said: "It appears that a car was travelling east on South Road when the driver lost control and collided with a wall.

"The Warwick man sustained a laceration to his left leg and bruising to his head. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries and later released."

The driver was issued with a ticket for driving without due care and attention. His car received extensive front end damage.

Police also released details yesterday of a dramatic car chase on Tuesday afternoon which saw a motorist arrested by armed officers.

As reported in yesterday's edition of The Royal Gazette, the incident was captured by one of our photographers as he took pictures of Police taking part in training on Parsons Road.

The spokesman said an officer on mobile patrol in Pembroke spotted a speeding car driving past on Woodlands Road just after 2 p.m.

"The officer pursued the vehicle, caught up with it on St. John's Road near the junction with Berkeley Road and signalled for the driver to pull over," said the spokesman.

"Instead the driver, a 50-year-old Pembroke man accelerated away, overtaking two vehicles and leading Police on a high-speed chase.

"The pursuit continued along North Shore Road, Glebe Road and onto Parsons Road where the Pembroke man was finally forced to stop due to heavy traffic in the area.

"During the chase several motorists were forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The driver of the car was arrested, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained."

The spokesman said the driver was issued with tickets for dangerous driving, having no vehicle licence and no insurance and would appear in court at a later date.

The spokesman also gave information on another incident on Tuesday afternoon in which a 65-year-old woman lost control of her car as she pulled out of the A1 supermarket car park at near the Collector's Hill junction.

The Smith's woman was uninjured after her car crashed into a wall outside the Centenary United Methodist Church but her vehicle received extensive front end damage.
