International business sector earnings rise

Earnings in the international business sector rose 6.6 percent, or more than $14 million, during the second quarter of 2010, according to the latest Government figures.

The Department of Statistics' Quarterly Bulletin of Statistics revealed that employment income for the sector climbed to $229.7 million for Q2, from $215.6 million in 2009.

Meanwhile the number of jobs in international business dropped seven percent last year, as reported in the June 2010 Bermuda Jobs Market Employment Briefs.

Hotel and restaurant staff saw earnings decline 27.9 percent for the quarter, to $12.5 million, having dropped steadily for Q2 since the second quarter of 2007 year-on-year, while construction fell 14.2 percent to $40.2 million.

Overall, employment income for all sectors was up 1.1 percent.
