Island, Reefs win awards in magazine survey
Bermuda has been voted the second best island in the Caribbean region by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine.
And the Reefs Resort was named as the third best hotel in the Caribbean region in the magazine's annual survey, moving up from 12th place in 2007.
Bermuda moved up from third place in the survey for hotels in The Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. Bermuda was the only Island to make it to the top five for another year in a row.
Last year the Island placed third and this year moved up to number two with Vieques, Puerto Rico being ranked number one.
For hotels, only eight of last year's 25 made the list. Also included was Elbow Beach, which was not on the list last year, but was 18th this year.
The top hotel was the One and Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island, Bahamas, followed by The Four Seasons in Nevis. For eight years running, The Reefs has been named one of the top 25, consistently earning accolades for its exceptional service and intimate setting.
Managing director for The Reefs, Ben Tutt said: "The Reefs is a remarkable hotel and I am exceptionally proud to be working with some of the finest people in the entire hotel industry.
"All the credit for this award goes to the dedicated and hard working staff at this lovely hotel. They have proven themselves time and time again to exemplify the best of Bermudian hospitality. They are a credit to the hotel, the island and all the people of Bermuda."
T+L Survey Methodology Rankings are based on reader evaluations collected in its World's Best Awards survey. For hotels, scores are indexed averages of evaluations for the characteristic "service".
Readers were asked to rate candidates on a scale of one to five, where five means 'excellent' and one means 'poor'.
