Man admits kicking in restaurant door

A Devonshire man who kicked in a bar door after he was refused service pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared in Magistrates' Court.

Zeko Rubaine, 20, was charged with wilful damage after the offence at the Bermuda Bistro, which took place on April 17.

Crown counsel Tawana Tannock said a staff member was cleaning up at the bar at 3.30 a.m. when he saw a male in dark clothing approach the door.

He waved the man off and the defendant came up to the door and kicked the glass in, causing it to shatter. The staff member reported the incident to the Police as other staff members followed Rubaine out of the bar. One worker saw a Police officer and pointed Rubaine out to him.

He was arrested for wilful damage and taken to the Hamilton Police Station.

In court, Rubaine said: "I would like to pay for the amount of the damage I caused. I kicked the door in but it was because I got pepper sprayed and I just wanted some water.

"I didn't realise I kicked it that hard."

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo delayed sentencing until November 22 and bailed the defendant in the amount of $2,000.
