Man admits threatening ex-wife
A Paget man told a court he threatened his ex-wife because he was angry she left him for another woman.
Dwight E. Booth, of Ord Road, admitted he went to his ex-wife's job on November 2 and told her: "You better watch your back. I am coming to get you. I won't come in the daytime, I will come at night when you least expect it."
The 50-year-old also admitted uttering threatening words on two other occasions to another woman between November 2 and November 13, including threatening he had a gun.
Senior Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates' Court yesterday that the defendant was recently divorced from his wife of 22 years.
Booth said: "My wife abandoned me and left me with the two kids. My wife of 22 years left me for my lesbian cousin. How am I supposed to feel?"
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said he understood the emotions involved, "however you cannot go around threatening people like this".
"These were threats and you said: 'I was guilty'."
Booth was fined $100 for each of the three charges of threatening words and ordered to stay away from his ex-wife and another complainant in this case. He was given until December 15 to pay the fine.
