Man shot and wounded near Ice Queen
A 22-year-old Warwick man was shot during the early hours of Saturday morning at a popular late-night eatery in Paget.
The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and, as of yesterday evening, he remained in stable condition at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim but a spokesman did reveal that he was shot in the torso and that the shooting took place in the parking lot of the Paget Ice Queen.
The spokesman said Police responded at 3.41 a.m. to the report of gunshots in the Ice Queen area and said that the man, who has not been identified, was immediately taken to hospital.
"Around 3.50 a.m. Saturday, Police received a report of a confirmed firearm incident in the vicinity of Ice Queen in Paget," said the spokesman.
Ice Queen is one of the only establishments in Bermuda which remain open through the early hours of the morning – making it particularly popular with people leaving the bars and clubs of Hamilton.
Dozens of people are regularly seen in the restaurant's parking lot up until 5 a.m. indicating that there likely were witnesses to the shooting.
The area has been the scene of violent incidents in the past including stabbings and at least one murder.
Police are pursuing at least one suspect in relation to Saturday's incident said the Police spokesman.
"The male suspect is described as 5 foot, 8 inches to 6 foot in height and of slim build. He made good his escape on a motorcycle heading towards the City of Hamilton. Detectives have spoken to a number of witnesses who have given accounts of what happened. However, investigators still need to speak with anyone who has not yet spoken to the Police," said a Police spokesman.
Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8121 or the independent 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hot line on 800-8477.
