Minister gives an update on new Police and court building
Works and Engineering Minister Derrick Burgess told the House of Assembly construction was still underway at the Police and court building on Church Street.
It was the seventh update Mr. Burgess has provided to the House on the construction of the building.
He told Members of Parliament the building shell is virtually complete and the concrete core is "substantially complete" as is the steel frame and steel decks and roofing. He provided a detailed list on the progress of all areas including plumbing, wiring and millwork.
Mr. Burgess added: "There are approximately 100 workers on the site daily, all contributing to the completion of this magnificent new structure. It is truly a beehive of excitement and activity these days.
"The architect has already commenced meetings with various departments that will be housed in the new structure in order to discuss fit out, individual space allocations etc., ensuring that where possible and where fiscally feasible their needs will be met."
He did not say when work is expected to be finished but the last statement projected the building would open in early 2011. The building has cost $91 million to create.
