People in need are being offered a helping hand in 2009 by a fundraising women's group.

The Phenomenal Women's Association — led by Hott 107.5 DJ Miss Thang aka Kristy Burgess — will be giving out cash to a deserving person in need each month. Ms Burgess said: "We have an anonymous donor that will be crediting our account to help someone in need.

"The funds will vary but every month we would like to award someone to help them along."

She said recipients would have be "individuals that are struggling because of health problems, unable to work or circumstances beyond their control".

"Each applicant will be screened accordingly. Our aim for 09 is to make a difference in the lives of many but we are going to start with one person at a time."
