Philanthropy centre brings companies together for greater good
Staff from a number of companies took part in a day of volunteering to give something back to the community.
The Centre on Philanthropy organised the event for workers at Capital G, ACE, Deloitte, XL Capital, Renaissance Re, Partner Re and Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty on Friday, October 24.
Capital G gave a facelift to the headquarters of charity Young Life by painting the entire outside, while Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation hosted Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty, ACE and Renaissance Re for a day of landscaping and outdoor maintenance.
Meanwhile Partner Re, Centre on Philanthropy, Deloitte and XL Capital cleaned out a warehouse at The Barn, run by the Bermuda Hospitals Auxiliary.
Said programme manager Danielle Riviere said: "Many companies give back to the community by organising a 'Day of Giving', when their staff go out and spend the day volunteering. However, some firms do not have the resources to organise these activities, so the Centre felt it would be quite a benefit for our corporate members if we organised a community day in which they could participate."
Partner Re volunteer Judith Hollis said: "It was a very rewarding experience and I hope to be in a position to volunteer again when needed."
Kevin Mahoney of Young Life said: "Capital G staff were effective, willing, and productive. They did all that was asked of them and were prepared to go above the call of duty. It was a rewarding time for all involved."
The Centre on Philanthropy will be hosting another community day next April, when it is hoped more companies and charities will take part.
