Premier gives Cayman leader a friendly reminder

Did you forget? Cayman Islands Government leader Kurt Tibbetts

The Bermudiana flower may soon be blooming outside the Government Offices in Cayman, thanks to a bet between the Premier and Cayman Islands Government Leader Kurt Tibbetts.

In March, the two leaders entered into a friendly bet over the outcome of the FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Bermuda and Cayman. The loser of the bet would plant the national flower of the winner outside the official government offices.

Bermuda won the match, and on Monday Premier Dr. Ewart Brown presented an envelope of Bermudiana seeds to Mr. Tibbetts while attending the Overseas Territory summit in the Turks and Caicos.

"There was no way I was going to allow The Hon. Kurt Tibbetts to get away easily," said Dr. Brown.

"This is the first time I have seen him since our two countries squared off, and I wanted to remind him of our great victory.

"My sources in the Cayman told me the Bermudiana had not been planted yet. So I wanted to give the Government Leader a gentle reminder."

Before the seeds left the Island, they were certified as environmentally safe by Bermudian specialists.
