Premier meets the Queen
Premier Paula Cox met with the Queen at Windsor Castle yesterday.
Her visit came on the same day that Prince William, the Queen's grandson and second-in-line to the Throne, announced his engagement to Kate Middleton.
Ms Cox, who is in London for the annual meeting of the Overseas Territories Consultative Council, also spoke yesterday with UK Minister for Overseas Territories Henry Bellingham, discussing issues of common interest such as global financial services and cooperation in criminal justice.
"As Bermuda continues to evolve as an international jurisdiction, it is essential that discussions like those held with Minister Bellingham result in positive and cooperative steps toward the stabilisation and globalisation of our economy.
"This morning's talks have been encouraging," she said.
Earlier, Minister without Portfolio Michael Weeks stood in for the Premier at the Eighth Annual Students Dinner, organised by Government's London office for Bermudians studying in the United Kingdom.
Mr Weeks spoke before a gathering of about 120 students, addressing topics of concern ranging from gun crime in Bermuda, educational reforms and efforts to increase employment oppor- tunities back home for young Bermudians.
In a recorded speech to the students, the Premier described some of Government's new national plan for Bermuda.
She introduced the two newly-created Ministries: Business Development and Tourism, and Economy, Trade and Industry.
"It is our intent to put Bermudians back in the picture," she told them.
The Premier also met with the Britain/Bermuda All Party Parliamentary Group, which is designed to foster links and understanding between the Island and the UK.
Ms Cox today attends the annual meeting of the Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC).
