It must be noted that half of our community is in compliance and it is not the Government's desire to penalise those organisations or individuals who have failed to meet the August 31 deadline, but the law will be in effect and will have to be enforced.

Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce Michael Scott warned the public has only three weeks left to become compliant with the new postal rules.

Yesterday Mr. Scott said: "I cannot emphasise enough that non-compliance with the law will result in non-delivery of your mail after August 31, 2009. It must be noted that half of our community is in compliance and it is not the Government's desire to penalise those organisations or individuals who have failed to meet the August 31 deadline, but the law will be in effect and will have to be enforced.

"I therefore strongly encourage everyone to put the necessary measures in place to meet this rapidly approaching deadline so that your mail will not be interrupted."

The new rules are:

• Mail must have a complete address and will no longer be delivered to a P.O. Box if it is addressed to a home address

• Mail must have the correct house number, street, parish and postcode

•Mail addressed to mailboxes must have the correct post box, post office and postcode

•House numbers must be visible

• All premises must have a mailbox

•Condominium developments must have a cluster box unit or a centralised reception area on the ground floor

•Commercial buildings will also be required to have a cluster box unit or a centralised reception area on the ground floor

Many have already bought mailboxes to ensure they will not miss out on mail delivery in September.

A spokeswoman at Masters Limited said they have sold a large quantity of mailboxes in the last month, with plastic proving more popular than the brass model sold.
