Retail sales in Bermuda continued to plunge for the 16th straight month, according to the latest statistics released by Government.

The Department of Statistics' Retail Sales Index revealed that the volume of sales dropped 6.7 percent in August 2009 compared to the same month last year.

Hardest hit was the apparel sales sector, with sales falling 20 percent over the month of August.
