Slots still open for Sail Training trips in Europe

Several young Bermudians will this summer take part in the North Western Europe tall ship race.

Sail Training Bermuda is looking for a few young adventurers to join them in the Tall Ships races throughout Europe this summer. Already eight young people from the Island have been placed on boats for the North Western Europe tall ship race, which begins off the coast of Northern Ireland, before travelling to the north of Scotland to Maloy, Norway, before arriving in Den Helder, north of Amsterdam.

This race begins today, and the fleet is expected to arrive in Den Helder on August 23.

Sail Training Bermuda chair John Wadson said that previous sailing experience is not needed to be selected.

"All they need is a sense of adventure, a willingness to embrace new opportunities, and a desire to interact with people from other social, cultural and racial backgrounds while confronting the physical and emotional challenges of life at sea," he said.

Next year, trips will see the ships and their crew travel between Vigo, Spain, Tenerife, North Carolina, Boston, Halifax and Belfast along with Bermuda in June.

Anyone looking to join the crew, or just to volunteer for the Bermuda Tall Ships Festival next summer, should visit www.tallshipsbermuda.com.
