Splinter injury puts the Premier's arm in sling
Premier Ewart Brown was left with his arm in a sling yesterday after being treated at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) for a deeply embedded splinter in his left index finger.
Dr. Brown decided to visit the emergency room to have his finger checked out.
Doctors at KEMH determined a surgical procedure, under a general anaesthetic, was needed to treat the infection and to ensure no remnants of the splinter remained.
Dr. Christopher Johnson conducted the 30-minute procedure.
Dr. Brown's lower left arm was left heavily wrapped and he has been instructed to wear a sling.
Dr. Brown said: "My care at King Edward was exemplary. I would like to thank all the professionals there who assisted me."
Feeling the after-effects of the medication he was given, he pulled out of an afternoon press conference promoting the work of the Bermuda Health Foundation, a charity that sponsors Bermudian medical students.
