STAR's charity walk tomorrow
The second annual walk for raising HIV/AIDS awareness in Bermuda will be held tomorrow and organisers are hoping for the STAR Charity walk will have an even stronger turnout then last year.
STAR, or Supportive Therapy for AIDS Person and their Relatives, works hard to spread awareness in Bermuda through presentation in churches, schools and workplaces.
Last year the walk raised more than $7,000 to initiate their education fund and this year organiser Alicia Tallack hopes to exceed both the funds and awareness that was sparked by last years event.
She said: "We encourage everyone to bring picnics and come for the walk and enjoy the gardens afterwards.
"More than increasing the numbers we hope to raise more awareness this year."
Registration, which is free, begins at 12 p.m. outside Camden in the Botanical Gardens and the one-mile walk will start at 2 p.m. leaving through the Berry Hill entrance.
Leading the way will be Places New Generation Gombeys and at the end families are encouraged to bring picnics and enjoy the gardens.
At the end of the walk entertainment will be provided by DJ TanZ from Chewstick, and refreshments provided by Barritts and Natural Link, as well as Snowy Snowballs.
Any money raised by participants will go to STAR Bermuda, providing Supportive Therapy for AIDS persons and Relatives.
Specifically, the STAR Student Fund; a bursary program for those living in Bermuda that have been infected or affected by HIV or AIDS.
If you would like to get involved, email: aidswalkbermuda@gmail.com and they will send you a pledge sheet.
