Support floods in for injured race ace
Messages of support continued to pour in for critically-injured young motorcycle racer Tony "De Tiger" Grant as he remained in Intensive Care yesterday.
Mr. Grant, 22, suffered serious head injuries when he crashed his bike into a sidewalk and tree on Southside Road in St. David's late on Tuesday.
He's a member of the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club, and was on course to win the Formula class this year until his accident.
Team member Dennis "Chicken" Wilson, said yesterday afternoon: "I've just received word there isn't much change. I believe some of the pressure [in his head] had gone down but there's not much change. He has swelling on the brain."
According to club president Shannon Caisey, Mr. Grant was due to undergo CAT scans to assess his condition yesterday.
Mr. Grant works as a security guard at L.F. Wade International Airport, and his family home is in St. David's, close to the scene of the accident.
His Facebook page was yesterday flooded with messages from friends and family members praying for his recovery.
Fellow Formula class racer Chris Alves wrote: "My head is heavy with thoughts of my boy Tony De Tiger Grant. Just had a great race with him on Sunday. Everyone please keep him in ya thoughts and prayers."
His aunt, Stacey Burt wrote: "Tony, I know you are strong and [have] faith that God will pull you through this and bring you to us full of life."
Friend Danlia Martin-Eversley posted: "Hang in there Tony. I know you will pull through. Keep fighting and fighting and know that there are lots and I mean lots of people out there praying for you."
His younger sister Ashley Grant, a 19-year-old Bermuda College student, told well-wishers: "Thank you all who have written your many blessings on Tony's wall. I, as well as the rest of my family, appreciate everything."
Mr. Grant continued to be treated in the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital yesterday, where his condition was listed as critical.
Airport general manager Aaron Adderley said: "We've been saddened by the news surrounding Tony's accident. On behalf of the entire airport family, our prayers and thoughts are with him and his family, his mother in particular, who is also a member of the airport community.
"We're hoping he pulls through. We've simply lost too many on our roads."
