Swearing at Police earns St. George's man a $1,000 fine

A St. George's man was fined after he admitted swearing at Police and shoving them away during a random drug search.

Nicolaus Wolffe, 20, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to using offensive words and violently obstructing an officer. Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told Magistrates' Court Wolffe was riding west on Kindley Field Road with a passenger when Police stopped him.

When asked for his drivers licence, Wolffe immediately became agitated and refused to show his ID. He then switched seats with the pillion passenger, saying: "Now I'm not f***ing driving."

Officers told Wolffe not to use offensive language, but when told that he was going to be searched, he said: "You guys are not going to f***ing search me, I ain't got f***s."

He reportedly shoved away the officer's hands, and hit Police with his elbows until they used Captor spray to stop him.

Attorney Llewellyn Peniston, representing Wolffe, said that the behaviour was an aberration possibly caused by new medication. "My client was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and he has recently been prescribed medication," Mr. Peniston said. "Medication affects people in different ways."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Wolffe $500 for each of the two offences, a total of $1,000.
