Teen with stolen video game fears for his scholarship
A Pembroke teenager faced the possibility of losing a football scholarship after he was found with a stolen video game system.
Dominique Williams, 16, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to receiving stolen goods.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said a number of items were stolen from a Radnor Road, Hamilton Parish home on June 7.
The complainants said they had locked the house but left a key in the mailbox for a contractor they'd hired.
When they returned the key was missing along with $1,040 worth of items including an X-Box 360 video game system.
Officers searched Williams' home and found the video game system among other stolen items.
Williams told Police a friend had brought the stolen items to his home, but admitted that he was told the items had been stolen.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said that he would need to order a Social Inquiry Report before administering a sentence.
Such a report usually takes four to six weeks to be carried out,
Williams' lawyer Charles Richardson told Mr. Warner his client would lose his football scholarship if forced to stay on the Island.
"From the moment this matter has been brought before the court Williams has been trying to move this forward," Mr. Richardson said. "If he does not make it up there then he will lose the scholarship."
Court Services agreed to interview Williams yesterday so that he could attend school.
Mr. Warner ordered Williams to return to the Island for sentencing on November 23 before releasing him on $10,000 bail with a surety.
