Ten-storey complex on Court Street planned
Another multi-storey apartment block has been proposed in Hamilton.
The latest Planning application is for a ten-storey commercial and residential complex at 5, Court Street.
Applicant Calworth Furbert wants to build 31 condominiums. The ground floor will be occupied by commercial and retail units.
The maximum height for buildings under the City of Hamilton 2001 Plan is seven storeys. The 2001 Plan is currently under review to relax restrictions on high- rise development.
A ten-storey condo building, proposed by property owner Dennis Chin, was approved on appeal last year. Situated on Serpentine Road, at the junction of Dundonald Street with Park Road, it will consist of 30 'affordable' one-bedroom units for sale and rental, with parking spaces for 40 motorcycles.
Architect for the project, Simon Hodgson of s.h.y. Architecture, said despite the ten-storey height, the development would not impinge on the Hamilton skyline or the Cathedral corridor.
"In that area, because of the low topography we can easily consider a ten-storey building because residential structures do not exceed the 138 ft height of the ridge of the Cathedral," he said.
