Water supply gift delights The Sunshine League

The Sunshine League has received a generous donation from two firms a reverse osmosis system capable of producing 100 gallons of water in 24 hours.

St. George's Trust Company Limited and Clearwater Systems Ltd. partnered to provide the charity with a clean and safe replacement to expensive bottled water.

The new system will help the residential care facility for displaced youth save thousands of dollars a year.

And the machine comes with the added benefit of diminishing the facility's environmental footprint by greatly reducing the amount of plastic bottles thrown away.

According to Clearwater System's general manager Chris Merritt, the system will completely eliminate water contaminants.

"What makes this system really unique is that it is coupled with new energy recovery permeate pump technology making it a better and more environmentally accepted reverse osmosis system," he said. "With the use of a permeate pump this system produces a smaller waste to purified water ratio — up to 80 percent less than conventional [reverse osmosis] systems. In addition this system provides a continuous supply of purified water to a remote floor cooler, giving the children their choice of cold, hot and room temperature water."

St. George's Trust vice president Jason Benevides said the company donated several years of pre-arranged routine filter maintenance and water bottles.

"We are thrilled to have been able to partner with Clearwater Systems to facilitate donation of a modern water filtration system to the Sunshine League," he said. "The Sunshine League is a great facility that helps Bermuda's youth and we hope that this donation lets the children know that we care about them."

Denise Carey, the charity's executive director, expressed her gratitude for the donation.

"We are so thankful to Jason and Chris for supplying and installing this system," she said. "Not only do we now have a constant supply of clean and pure water for our children, we are also saving money on energy and helping the environment at the same time. What a wonderful solution this is for us."
