Child abduction text message not true, parents warned

Parents are being advised to ignore a text message about an attempted child abduction in Bermuda.Police today issued a warning after receiving several calls from concerned parents.Said a Police spokesman: "The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a text message being circulated claiming that a man attempted to abduct a boy from the bus terminal. The message goes on to detail the vehicle allegedly used and the suspected perpetrator."Police have received several calls from concerned parents and members of the public about this text message; however no reports of anything similar occurring locally have been received."The spokesman warned residents against circulating unverified information."[We] encourage anyone with any specific information about this or any other unlawful activity to contact the main Police number 295-0011 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477."
