Call for local companies to help build new hospital
Local companies interested in helping build Bermuda’s new hospital are invited to a meeting next week.Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Kim Wilson is holding the session on Monday at 10am at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, in partnership with main contractor BCM McAlpine. The aim is to tell potential subcontractors and suppliers how to register an interest in getting work on the three-year, multi-million dollar development project and explain how the selection process will work.Senator Wilson said: “The redevelopment of the hospital is a project that is of national interest and importance. The building of the facility will provide much needed jobs in the lagging construction industry.“This is an excellent opportunity for you to come out and register your interest. Our goal is to ensure that as many Bermudian companies as possible become involved with this project. Industry partners should attend the meeting and must express an interest if they are to be considered.”The new hospital is being built as part of a public private partnership with Paget Health Services and will include 90 single-occupancy en suite patient rooms; Bermuda’s first dedicated day surgery unit; oncology, dialysis, asthma and diabetes care services; diagnostic imaging services; a new emergency room; and a new utility plant.BCM McAlpine president Alan Burland said the consortium of local and international companies which make up Paget Health Services fully understood its responsibility to involve as many Bermudians in the project as possible.“We have received an unprecedented level of interest in the project and this meeting will allow those companies to understand the process that we will use to select our subcontractors and suppliers,” he said.“We encourage as much of the local industry to attend the meeting as possible.”l Useful website: www.bhb.bm, www.pagethealthservices.com, www.constructionbermuda.com
