Norwegian tall ship visits Island
Hamilton has been visited by Norwegian Tall Ship Sorlandet as part of an educational trip.The 57m (187ft) ship is visiting the Island as part of the Class Afloat programme, carrying 45 students per semester throughout Western Europe, the Caribbean, South America and Europe.The ship arrived on the Island last Thursday after stops in Belize, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.The Class Afloat programme previously used the training ship Concordia, which visited the Island as part of several Tall Ships events before it sank off the coast of Brazil last year. Luckily, everyone who was onboard the vessel was rescued.The Sorlandet, based in Kristiansand, Norway, is currently the oldest full rigged ship still in operation. It is scheduled to remain in port in Hamilton until today, when the ship departs for the Azores.l Useful website: www.classafloat.com
