BIFF planning parties and other events during festival

The Bermuda International Film Festival starts Friday with the Unwrapped Party at Rum Bar on Victoria Street.Guests will include the stars of BIFF 2011: filmmakers, the competition film jury and industry experts.The party will feature a backdrop of outdoor movies and a soundtrack of Latin beats from 9pm until 1am.Tickets are priced at $30, which includes hors d’oeuvres served throughout the evening and a complimentary drink.There will also be giveaways for the first 200 guests.BIFF Late Nite events throughout the March 18 through 24 festival offer filmmakers and filmgoers an opportunity to gather, relax, chat and dissect the films.The events will feature happy hour drink prices and free appetisers from 9pm until closing. They will be held Saturday, March 19 at the Hog Penny; Monday, March 21 at Pickled Onion, where Tony Brannon and Janita will perform live; Tuesday, March 22 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and Wednesday, March 23 at Fresco’s.In addition, a dine-around card is on offer to allow filmgoers to enjoy dinner and a movie.Cards can be bought for $5. They give a ten percent discount on food purchases throughout the festival at Harbourfront, Cafe Lido, La Trattoria, L’Oriental, Little Venice, Ten and Bistro J. They can be bought at the BIFF box office from Friday.The film festival will close with a wrap party at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art within the Botanical Gardens and will feature live music from local performers Andrew Chamberlain, Joy Barnum and The Channel and Mohawk Radio.Tickets are available in advance from www.biff.bm or the BIFF Box Office at iStore, 46 Reid Street, Hamilton for $60 or $70 at the door.
