Namibia thrash Bermuda in Dubai

Bermuda slumped to a crushing 100 run defeat at the hands of Namibia in Dubai today.Poor decision making and some suicidal running saw the Island tumble to 108 all out in their final warm-up match before the World Cricket League Division Two qualifiers begin on Friday. The batting collapse over-shadowed an impressive bowling performance that restricted Namibia to 208 for five, and saw the South African side score just 92 runs in the first 30 overs.Once again, Malachi Jones led the way with some disciplined bowling, and in the absence of Stefan Kelly, who doesn’t arrive in Dubai until tonight, and Damali Bell, who had a slight ankle injury, he was ably supported by Kyle Hodsoll. The pair didn’t concede run for the first four overs, and Hodsoll made an early breakthrough when he bowled opener JB Burger for just seven. On a low and slow wicket, Namibia’s batsmen struggled to adapt to the conditions, while, to a man, Bermuda’s bowlers held their line and length well all game.Irving Romaine was the pick of the rest, taking two wickets for 49 runs off his ten overs, while skipper David Hemp also picked up the wicket of counterpart Craig Williams.Saurel Burger led the way for Namibia with a half century, and Ewald Steenkamp (38), Williams (39), and Gerry Snyman (36*) also weighed in with useful runs.Despite their struggles, Namibia still managed to put together three partnerships of 50 or more during their innings, and that, more than anything, was the main difference between the two sides.Bermuda’s biggest partnership, of 37, was between Fiqre Crockwell (16) and Lionel Cann (27), and came when their side was already 25 for three. By then Chris Foggo (two) and Jason Anderson (six) had thrown their wickets away, while David Hemp (four) had fallen to Louis Klazinga.Things should have been a lot worse for Bermuda, Crockwell was dropped twice, including off the first ball he faced, while Cann was also put down once.Cann’s departure signaled the end for Bermuda, and from 62 for four, they lost their last six wickets for just 46 runs. The team have four days to pick themselves up before their first game against Papua New Guinea.* Follow the action live with The Royal Gazette - we'll be providing live updates of all Bermuda's games in Dubai.
