MP mourns latest road fatality

Shadow Transport Minister Charlie Swan yesterday called for motorists to drive safely as he mourns the loss of his friend Timothy Pedro.Mr Pedro, 49, became the second person to die on Bermuda’s roads in 2011 when he crashed his motorcycle into a tree on Middle Road, Devonshire, on Thursday evening.United Bermuda Party MP Mr Swan said yesterday: “I have known Timothy and his mom Phylis and all the family most of my life.“His mom Phyllis looked after our children in their very early years after birth. Their loss is indeed Bermuda’s, and it worrying that our roads have claimed yet another.“I encourage all who use them to develop and practice driving habits that preserve human life. The loss of lives on our roads is avoidable.”Mr Pedro, who worked for Island Construction, also left 18-year-old daughter Laurie and wife Theresa. The accident happened at 6pm, near Middle Road’s junction with Parsons Lane.
