Moore: Bermuda vs UAE is a 'do or die' game

Crockwell out for a duck

DUBAI SPORTS CITY (Namibia won toss) - Namibia, 297 for eight, beat Bermuda 211 all out, by 87 runs.Bermuda's World Cricket League Division Two status is hanging by a thread after their result in Dubai today. The Island have now lost three of the four games they have played at the tournament and are tied on two points with Uganda and Hong Kong, who are in the same boat. With one round of matches left to play, the game against UAE on Thursday now becomes 'do or die' as head coach David Moore said afterwards.“If we win on Thursday we have a very good chance of remaining in the division - even if other teams win as well," said Moore "This last game will determine who gets the fourth spot, as us, Hong Kong and Uganda have all won one game thus far."It is do or die as far as we’re concerned. Ours is a very good run rate so we’re in a good position.”Victory today would obviously have made things much easier, but Bermuda never really gave themselves a chance. They undid all the good work of restricting Namibia to 157 for one in 36 overs, by then conceding a 140 runs in the final 14. Half of those runs were scored by Namibia skipper Craig Williams who hammered 74 of them off just 35 balls, who built on the good work of Ewald Steenkamp (87) and Sarel Burger (59).Bermuda had no answer to that brutal assault, and when it came time for them to bat they also shot themselves in the foot, despite half centuries from Dion Stovell (73) and Lionel Cann (53).On the back of Stovell's blistering start, Bermuda raced to 106 for three off the opening 16 overs, and looked like they might give themselves a serious chance of winning. However, they then lost three wickets in the space of 10 balls after the water break, and collapsed to 113 for six. Still, with Cann and Trott (29) putting on 81 they still had slim chance of securing a remarkable win. That all disappeared when Cann went soon after reaching his half century and from 194 for six, Bermuda collapsed again to 211 all out.“Namibia is a very strong team, and we just didn’t play well enough today," said Moore."We bowled well in the first two-thirds of the game – but we just lost it in the last. In terms of batting we set off like a house on fire with Stovell and Cann, but those boys should really be getting centuries.“Our batting was very aggressive – we took the game to them and Namibia didn’t like that. They don’t like people bringing the game to them. Our bowling was disappointing, it began very well but we just lost it.”* Josh will bring you live commentary of the UAE game.
