Man accused of sexually assaulting a minor
A 35-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor, as well assaulting two people who tried to intervene.The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, made no plea in Magistrates’ Court, as his case must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.It is alleged that on March 29 in Pembroke, the accused used his hands and upper body to touch a child under the age of 14, for sexual purposes.The man was also charged with depriving a woman of her child by forcibly enticing the child away.He also faces two counts of assaulting the adults who attempted to detain him. The incidents occurred in an increased penalty zone within 300 metres of Mount Saint Agnes School.The man is further charged with carrying an offensive weapon a claw hammer and possessing drug equipment.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded him into police custody. A trial date is to be set in two weeks.
