The Bermuda National Trust’s annual Palm Sunday walk drew more than 2,000 people to explore the West End yesterday.This year’s 7.5 mile walk started at 1.30pm at White Hill Field, Sandys.Sunny, 70F weather and low humidity made for ideal walk conditions National Trust executive director Jennifer Gray called it “all smiles” at the finish line. “It’s beautiful, one of the best walks I’ve ever been on,” said Deborah Tucker, a regular Palm Sunday walker. “This walk today is very comfortable, very relaxing, very accessible. I remember the St George’s walk a couple of years ago was very hilly, but this one’s just right.”Walkers travelled through Port Royal Golf Course, Wadson’s Farm, Vesey Nature Reserve and Morgan’s Point.“We’re very lucky to get Port Royal Golf Course on this year’s walk,” Trust volunteer Carolyn Conway said. “It’s very generous of them to shut down part of the golf course for a few hours so that people can see it.”US visitor Adrianna pronounced the view from Port Royal’s 16th hole “breathtaking”.“It’s a steep view up there. I nearly got vertigo looking out. But the sea view is spectacular.”Marian O’Leary Walker, another first-time visitor from the US, said: “I was delighted to see my first farm in Bermuda and the gorgeous water views. The woods we’ve just come through were beautiful and cool.”Ms Gray said this year’s walk took many people through areas they hadn’t seen before from the Vesey Reserve and its “impressive quarries” to Wadson’s Farm and Port Royal.As the last walkers came in at 4.15pm, she said: “All I can see is smiles on faces and nobody limping.”Useful website: www.bnt.bm.
