Change a life become a foster parent

Bermuda has more than 100 children in foster care, and the Department of Child and Family Services needs more members of the public to help.May has been declared Foster Care Month by Youth, Families, Sports and Community Minister Glenn Blakeney, to raise awareness of the issue.Mr Blakeney said: “Every young person in foster care benefits from a meaningful connection to a caring adult who becomes a supportive and lasting presence in his or her life. Now is the time to get involved. No matter how much time you have to give, you have the power to do something that will change a life for a young person in foster care.”Mr Blakeney said he saluted foster parents, relative caregivers, mentors, social workers and advocates for their work.“Thanks to these unsung heroes, many formerly abused or neglected youth will either safely reunite with their parents, be cared for by relatives, or be adopted by loving families,” he said. For more information on Bermuda’s foster care programme telephone 294-5871.
