Four charged in heroin smuggling plot

Four men who allegedly plotted to smuggle nearly $1 million worth of heroin into Bermuda were today charged in Magistrates’ Court.David Carroll, 31, of Hamilton Parish; Craig Hatherley, 26, of Paget; Lorenzo Lottimore, 31, of Warwick and Loren Marshall, 27, of St George’s are accused of conspiring to import the drug.The four were charged with conspiring with persons not before the court between a date unknown and June 1.The men were arrested in Bermuda on June 1, in conjunction with US authorities.They were not required to enter a plea today, as the case is indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court.Mr Carroll alone was charged with conspiring with others not before the court to import almost two kilos cannabis into Bermuda.Crown counsel Tawana Tannock said police had estimated the street value of the cannabis at just below $100,000.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released each man on $200,000 bail on the condition that they surrender travel documents and report twice a week to police.The four will return to court for mention later this month.
