Belco clarifies its role in the proposed Park Hyatt resort

The proposed Park Hyatt resort in St George’s would contain a Belco substation and not a power plant.A spokeswoman for the utility issued a statement yesterday to clarify the company’s role in the proposed development, after earlier news reports referred imprecisely to a “power plant” at the site.“Belco does not have any formal plans for the Hyatt development yet, and we have no plans for a distributed generation plant on the site,” the spokeswoman said.“What we would require is a substation so that we can provide service to the new development, while enhancing supply to St George’s.“A substation contains switches; it is where our high-voltage transmission and low-voltage distribution systems meet, so that power can be stepped down for distribution to customers.”
