Man charged with premeditated murder of footballer
A St George's man has been charged with the premeditated murder of footballer Shaki Crockwell.
Mr Crockwell's body was found on the Railway Trail in Devonshire four years ago.
Derek Spalding, 36, was today charged in Magistrates' Court with the premeditated murder of Mr Crockwell on August 24, 2007.
He was further charged with using a firearm to commit an indictable offence, on that same date.
Mr Spalding was not required to enter a plea as both charges must be heard before Supreme Court.
He pleaded not guilty to two offences relating to August 15, 2011.
On that date Mr Spalding is accused of uttering threatening words to his father, Carlton Spalding.
He was also charged with causing wilful damage to his father's property, in the amount of $680.
Mr Spalding was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday.
