Man denies attempted murder of 16-year-old
A man denied attempting to shoot a 16-year-old boy dead when he appeared at Supreme Court this morning.Royunde Cyrus, 24, is alleged to have opened fire on Jahrockia Smith-Hassell in Rambling Lane, Pembroke, around 11.50pm on March 25.He pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and using a gun to commit the offence, and is due to stand trial on November 15.Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves remanded the defendant, of Scenic Heights Pass, Southampton, into custody until that date.In another case, a self-employed businessman accused of conspiring to import $10 million worth of drugs and 200 rounds of live ammunition denied a string of charges.Victor Roberts, 46, is alleged to have engaged in the plot with others not before the courts between a date unknown and July 17 this year.Police seized more than $10 million worth of drugs and four boxes containing 200 rounds of live ammunition during a raid at a home on South Road, Warwick on July 20.Mr Roberts, of Khyber Pass, Warwick, faces charges in respect of heroin, cocaine, cannabis, cannabis resin, 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 100 rounds of 40mm ammunition. He denied all of them, and was remanded into custody until a further hearing on November 1.Meanwhile, a Southampton man who is alleged to have had a loaded gun in his car when he was arrested, denied firearm and ammunition possession charges.Gladstone Butterfield is accused of committing the offences on July 25, having been detained by police near the Southampton Princess hotel in the early hours of that date. According to the charges, he was in possession of a Kel-Tec semi-automatic P11 pistol and nine "full metal jacket" 9mm bullets.Mr Butterfield, 26, of Horseshoe Road, Southampton, denied the offences and was remanded into custody until a further hearing date on November 1.A man accused of possessing an offensive weapon in public, in the form of a fishing bait knife, also pleaded not guilty. Jerry Eastmond-Williams further denied behaving in a threatening manner towards Mike Shaw and trespassing at the Waterfront Marina complex.All the incidents in question are alleged to have taken place on November 30 last year.Mr Eastmond-Williams, 47, of Derwent Lane, Devonshire, elected to have a trial before a judge and jury at Supreme Court rather than be dealt with at Magistrates’ Court.He pleaded not guilty today and was bailed by the judge until his trial on December 12.
